Here, sustainability means future-proof construction.
Sustainability – a term that is taking on ever-greater role in construction. For a good reason. This is because the prevailing conditions for the construction industry are due to change considerably. In Germany alone, around a third of the consumption of resources is attributable to buildings. This also applies to CO2 emissions and the accumulation of waste. In light of climate change objectives and scarcity of resources, increasing emphasis is being placed on legal requirements and standards.

In addition to its location, the value and yield of a property depends more and more on the quality of the building. Initial empirical studies convincingly show that a sustainable and certified property not only contributes to savings in energy and water costs, but is also easier to market and more profitable. The property retains much more of its value for longer.
Green Building Certification
With Green Building Certification, the building is evaluated in terms of its sustainability. This includes the economic, ecological, socio-cultural, functional and technical quality of buildings. The internationally established systems for sustainability certification include the American system, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and the British system BREEAM (British Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method). However, the German system, from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen (DGNB) (German Sustainable Building Council) is increasingly gaining in significance. Both new and existing buildings can be certified. With Green Building Certification, the health of the building users and the conservation of resources are the central focus. It makes energy and environmental matters transparent.
